The warm tropical waters around the Maldives are teeming with fascinating marine life. Watch in awe as schools of colourful fish swim past you and dart in and out the exotic reefs. Some of the aquatic creatures are also pretty rare. An underwater camera is highly recommended! Strap on your diving gear and descend underwater for a thrilling time. Alternatively, if you’re not qualified, or don’t like to be completely submersed in water, snorkelling is another great way to enjoy the wonders of the water. Sometimes simply sitting on your over-water terrace or on the edge of a boat, trailing your feet or fingers in the sea, allows you to see fish darting through the clear waters below. Hotspots include Alimatha Island and the Banana Reef.

If you want something even more adventurous, the waters are also the resting place of several ship wrecks, including Kuda Giri, the Maldives Victory, and British Loyalty.

Luxuriate in Soothing Spas

The Maldives is known for its abundance of high-end spas that offer a wide assortment of treatments to make you feel like a whole new person. As the experienced and skilful masseur works their magic on your muscles you will almost feel like purring! Feel refreshed in a sauna or steam room, pamper yourself with a facial, haircut, manicure, or pedicure, and choose from diverse treatments such as aromatherapy, acupuncture, hot rock massages, oil massages, body wraps, reflexology, and more.

Enjoy an Assortment of Adventurous Activities

If you’re seeking an adrenaline rush whilst on vacation, the Maldives has a few activities that are sure to appeal. Take to the skies, feel the rush, and admire the views with a spot of parasailing, sure to get the blood pumping through your veins. At certain times of the year, some beaches offer the perfect conditions for surfing. Head out onto the open waters and test your angling skills with a spot of fishing. Another cool activity is to take an exciting ride in a submarine! Looking for something tamer? How about a dolphin-spotting boat trip?

Bask on Pristine Beaches

Many of the islands are fringed with glorious beaches, their white sands beckoning you to lie down in the warming sun and just relax. Inhale the serenity as you blissfully let the sun’s rays caress your body, your eyes feasting on the wonderful views, and you feel all tensions simply melting away. Feel the soft sand between your toes, wade into the refreshingly cool, but not cold, waters for a swim, and savour the delectable sweet tastes of a tropical fruit drink, the perfect tonic on a hot summer’s day. Stroll along the sands at sunset to watch the changing colours of the sky, and treat yourself to a meal or two in a beachside restaurant.

Visit the local fish market to experience the hustle and bustle of everyday life; just be prepared for some strong smells! See the Presidential Palace, discover gems in the local markets, and chill out in the verdant Sultan’s Park.
